LET YOUR NATURE THRIVE | Olivia Henrie

When we needed tiny, adorable mixing bowls and spoons created to use with our DETOX Mask, we immediately reached out to our favorite artist and maker—Olivia Henrie. Olivia has made a name for herself as the founder of Innerspacim and co-founder of Atelier, where she sells her beautifully curated, handcrafted art, ceramics, and home goods. Our DETOX Kits, all handmade with love by Olivia, are now a customer favorite. They’re the perfect mixing tools for our favorite face mask, and even better, they’re 20% off with code CRUDEKIT through 12/19!

We’re regulars at Olivia’s boutique Atelier, where we buy candles, jewelry, pottery, incense, cards, and more—all made by badass local women. We couldn’t wait to learn more about the artist herself, what inspires her, and how she lets her nature thrive. Check out her interview below, and make sure to check out Innerspacism online and Atelier if you’re in SLC.

CRUDE: IN 2-3 SENTENCES, TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR CAREER:

OLIVIA: Along with co-owning a storefront, I work as a maker specializing in home decor.

CRUDE: HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO BE AN ENTREPRENEUR?  HOW DID THAT HAPPEN FOR YOU?

OLIVIA:  I have always dreamt of owning a small store where I could sell hand-crafted and ethically conscious goods. I started out selling hand-crafted goods that my friends and I would make at pop-ups or markets. From there, I slowly worked towards opening a store with my good friend and fellow maker, Malinda Fisher of Desert Rose Jewelry.

CRUDE: WHAT DOES "INNERSPACISM" MEAN TO YOU?

OLIVIA: Innerspacism is to thoughtfully curate your dwelling with what means the most to you and your lifestyle. As a shop, we house home goods, fine art prints, custom furniture, and other goods that fit this way of life.

CRUDE: YOU ARE THE ULTIMATE JANE-OF-ALL-TRADES.  I'M CONSTANTLY IMPRESSED BY YOUR RANGE OF SKILLS AND THE INCREDIBLE FURNITURE, ART, AND DECOR YOU CREATE.  HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN ARTISTIC?  DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE CRAFT?

OLIVIA: I grew up in a home of artists. My father is a painter. My mother is an avid crafter and vintage collector. My brothers and sisters took after my parents in their own ways. As for me, my favorite crafts are ceramics and welding.

CRUDE: WHAT IS CURRENTLY INSPIRING YOU AS AN ARTIST?

OLIVIA: I'm inspired by other female business owners and makers.

CRUDE: DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS OR PEOPLE THINKING ABOUT TURNING THEIR CRAFT INTO A CAREER?

OLIVIA: A successful business doesn't just happen overnight. It takes a lot of time, work and dedication.

CRUDE: FOR US, THE 'LET YOUR NATURE THRIVE' PHILOSOPHY APPLIES OT MORE THAN JUST SKINCARE AND THE MICROBIOME.  WE ALSO THINK ABOUT IT IN RELATION TO HOW WE EXPRESS & CELEBRATE THE DIVERSE NATURE IN ALL OF US INDIVIDUALLY (AND HOW WE CAN CREATE HOMEOSTASIS WHEN WE COME TOGETHER).  WHAT'S ONE WAY YOU LET YOUR UNIQUE NATURE THRIVE AND WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED IN DOING SO?

OLIVIA: It has taken a lot of work to be comfortable in my own skin and with who I am as an individual. Through being more realistic with my nature, I've been able to attract more like minded people and communities.
