Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend our Oil-Cleansing Starter Kit for your face and Soap-Free Wash for your body. Don't forget to try our Pull Cloths! Pull is an essential part of our oil-cleansing system. Oil cleanses deeply, but water and oil repel, water alone will not remove the debris and bacteria drawn up from your skin.

Yes! Cleanse and Wash double as a moisturizer and Wash makes an excellent shaving cream or post-sun balm. We've kept our line dual-purpose and intentionally small in an effort to reduce waste. Read more about our sustainable practices here.

CRUDE was developed as a system, using minimal ingredients to reduce potential irritants to the skin. We recommend using CRUDE alone for at least a month to get a good idea of how it works with your skin.

Bloom and Glow are cherries on your CRUDE sundae, adding extra skin-loving benefits to your oil-cleansing foundation. Use Bloom for healing and regeneration, and Glow for an extra moisture boost or to soothe irritated skin. Try Wash as a lighter facial moisturizer or an after-sun serum!

Since our founder started CRUDE in her kitchen in 2014, we've helped thousands of customers all over the world heal their acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, and even bacterial vaginosis naturally — with our game-changing suds-free products.

We were hoping you would ask! Short answer: basically, a bunch of microscopic organisms that live, feed, and flourish on our surfaces. Sort of like a family with millions, billions, even trillions(!) of tiny members. Our planet has a microbiome, your dog has a microbiome, your skin has a microbiome, everyone and just about everything has a microbiome! Sounds kind of freaky, we know, but these microorganisms are actually critical in regulating the health and vitality of their environment. The bacterial flora in our gut even affects our mood! It’s time to take care of our tiny passengers like they take care of us.

Oil cleansing is a soap-free method of face washing that’s been in practice for literally thousands of years. While putting oil on your face may sound like a recipe for disaster, fear not! All our oils are non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t clog your pores, and have been formulated with a variety of skin types - even oily - in mind. Check out our top seller Cleanse for a video demonstration on oil pulling or head to our blog, the School of UnLearning, to read more about the ancient (and effective) method that’s healed so many of our customer’s skin woes.

CRUDE’s HQ would be a rough place to work if that were true! In fact, showering too often may cause excessive body odor by disrupting your skin’s delicate microbiome. Our soap-free Wash keeps you fresh and clean without the flora-stripping suds.

The daily soap bath has only been common for the last century, becoming ubiquitous with the rise of mass marketing in the early 1900s. Some of the first major advertising campaigns were led by companies like Procter & Gamble, who used soap ads in magazines and daytime radio shows (this is where the term “soap operas” originated) to persuade American wives that their “BO” was keeping them from getting a man. Their advertisements worked: bathing with soap was normalized and it became a foundation for the beauty industry as we know it today.

But our skin didn’t evolve to require a harsh, soapy cleanser to stay clean. Overcleansing creates chronic inflammation and strips the skin’s protective oils and microbiome, exacerbating inflammatory skin diseases like acne and eczema.

Yes, definitely. Soap demolishes most of the bacteria and fungi it encounters, making it a powerful tool for preventing the spread of infectious disease. Regular, thorough hand-washing is important (the whole 20 seconds!), but daily, head-to-toe soap use strips the skin of its protective moisture barrier and essential skin-healing flora, leaving you susceptible to chronic inflammatory diseases like acne and eczema.

On its merry way! We try to get all orders out within 48 hours of purchase. However, we ask that you allow us up to 14 business days to fulfill your order before shipping it out—though it usually only takes 1 or 2. We’re a small operation who make all of our products by hand, in-house. This allows us to maintain the highest quality products possible and helps us keep our prices low, but does occasionally result in a slightly longer wait time. We also anticipate that during sales it might take longer than normal to receive orders. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Your skin and its ecosystem may need some time to adjust to your new regimen, so try to be patient and consistent. Some of our best testimonials have come from customers who initially experienced an adjustment period. Don’t forget, true healing can take time. Here are some tips to get you through:

CRUDE was developed as a system using minimal ingredients to reduce potential irritants to the skin. We recommend using CRUDE alone for at least a month to get a good idea of how it works with your skin.

Experiment with Cleanse frequency. Try cleansing once a day instead of twice (or vice versa). Let your skintuition guide you to the right routine.

Don’t forget to wash your Pull Cloths after each use! You don’t want to put old makeup and bacteria back on your skin. Wash with a gentle, environmentally-friendly detergent and hang dry instead of using the dryer to keep them super soft and absorbent.

Make sure to Detox. It’s a crucial part of the CRUDE oil-cleansing system, especially when you’re just starting out. Most modern skincare routines include harsh cleansers and exfoliants and when making the switch to our much less abrasive oil-cleanser, it can often take the skin some time to adjust. Many of our customers find that they need to Detox less over time as their skin adjusts to this more natural way of cleansing.

“I had the WORST clogged, acne ridden, damaged skin. I started using CRUDE a year ago, and I saw significant change after about six months of using it. At first, I didn't see a huge difference, but my skin felt more clear. It took a long time to get my acne-filled skin healthy looking again, and now I can see significant radiance, even tone, and overall my skin feels better and has a better texture. I love CRUDE!" - Lauren
